Surf’s up on the Lake of Fire
The dogs of winter thrash the shores
In rapturous decline
A silver sunset in black and white
What’s left of us will slide into a
Future out of time
It all comes in waves
We all like close shaves
Tribulations all up in my mind
We light more fires
Than we can fight
We’re more offended by the facts than the lies
Spring Fever, Dream Vacation
Ride that crimson wave
Spring, Fever Dream, Vacation
Ride it ‘til it breaks
Spring breaks under blood orange skies
The rite of spring’s a fire dance
Of ritual demise
An atmospheric fever wasteland
For some an existential threat
For others a retirement plan
Catch the ravenous waves
Firestorms and plagues
The wealth of nations built a decadent pyre
Retreat to a campfire sing along
Sly Stone better not have been wrong
Singin’ “we can make it if we try”

I took your picture through the violet breeze
Dusty rose city got me weak in the knees
We cruised the Garonne
En provenance de Bordeaux
Rode a bike built for two
There was nothing left, Toulouse
We came with nothing cause we lost it all
(Au moins on est tous les deux)
Still got each other and these old city walls
Along the canal
(Tout est beau, tout est calme)
On a bike built for two
When there’s nothing left, Toulouse
As we drank up the local history
(mmm hmm)
A story stretching back to the 8th Century BC
Of Romans and Visigoths
Les Francs et vieux Languedoc
We were just passing through
There was nothing left, Toulouse
The songs of troubadours and trobairitz
(Toujours Plus)
And the gilded violets for which they’d compete
Their echos remind us
(Leur poésie nous rappelle)
That we’re just passing through
When there’s nothing left, Toulouse
When there’s nothing left, Toulouse
You’re still the one I fell into
When there’s nothing left, Toulouse
Don’t ever wanna have to choose
The sunset melted into the Pyrenees
(Magnifique)
Snowy peaks o’ moonlight thru the chestnut trees
(Un hibou!)
The night slows so fast
Sur une jolie terrasse
Where it’s just me and you
And there’s nothing left, Toulouse
I had to try the local cassoulet
You said ‘non merci’ and got the salade composée
(Avec plaisir)
Un Corbière s’il vous plaît
On prendra la bouteille
It’s just me and you
And there’s nothing left, Toulouse

Gale Force Winds
03:42
|
|||
Shipshape, scraped and painted
Set sail, with smoke in our eyes
Sang our farewells to Nova Scotia
Her weatherbeaten granite ledges
Disappeared into our wake
As black clouds swelled on our horizon
I could see the constellations pierce the twilight
This boat’s about to rock
We salute the starry night
This little boat of mine’ll
Rock in the ocean as it rolls tonight
She’s white lightning when it rains and it pours
Vicious like her scarlet stripes
Bluer than her bloodshot eyes
She’s white lightning when it rains and it pours
Black ocean swells above us
Crashing through cascading seas
We reefed down to ride it out
Forty knot winds and thirty foot waves
Our anchor jumped out and frayed the headstay
Now we’re frozen on the ropes, hand over fist
North of the rhumbline
we sailed the Viking path
We’ll go down fighting if we have to,
Nail our colours to the mast
A midnight gale caught us cold
What fathoms lie below
This/Our little boat rocks as the ocean rolls
Gale force winds, blow by blow
Our fate remains untold
This little boat rocks as the ocean rolls

Sakura Tsunami

5 Meltdown on the ground
7 It’s a rubber boot ballet
5 In this flooded town
5 Sidewalks stroll between
7 Dirty cliffs of melting snow
5 Weathered and obscene
5 Sunshine trickles down
7 Frozen paw prints wash away
5 Winter’s run aground
5 Bursting from the trees
7 Cherry blossom tsunami
5 Washes over me
Slow down, Sakura
You give me hayfever
Your tsunami floods my sinuses
Nostalgia drowns my senses
O Sakura, you give me hayfever
Crying eyes of spring romance
Remind us at a glance that
Summer's not so far away
Not so far away
Blossoms falling in the rain
Summer's not so far away
Not so far away
There’s warmth across the signal chain
5 Fleeting torrents flood
7 Sump pumps pumpin’ day and night
5 Life springs from the mud
5 Geese flock from the south
7 Grassroots protest, twist, and sprout
5 Greens from golden brown
Queens of pollination give us all we need
Leave it to the bees to figure out
I’m taking all the anti-histamines
Forget what’s in the breeze we’re gonna live out loud
Snow runs outta steam laying waste to the streets
Marinating shadows where fiddleheads sprout
Hanami picnic envy washes over me
Showers bring us flowers just to slow us down
Sakura, you give me hayfever
Your tsunami floods my sinuses
Nostalgia drowns my senses
O Sakura, you give me hayfever
Crying eyes of spring romance
Remind us at a glance that
Summer's not so far away
Not so far away
Blossoms falling in the rain
Summer's not so far away
Not so far away
Songs of summer play by play
5 Sunsoaked porch in shorts
7 Forecast blizzard’s on its way
5 Nothing’s ever sure
5 Pump those flaccid tires
7 Unleash all the bicycles
5 Let’s ride like prairie fire
So long, Sakura
You give me hayfever
Your tsunami floods my sinuses
Nostalgia drowns my senses
O Sakura, you give me hayfever
Crying eyes of spring romance
Remind us at a glance that
Summer's not so far away
Not so far away
Blossoms falling in the rain
Summer's not so far away
Not so far away
Apocalyptic thinking fades

Surf Rider, Barrel Racer

Surf rider
Barrel racer
They’re surf and turf lovers
Straight up, no chaser.
She was the belle of 15th avenue
He chased her, she ignored him
He withdrew and she pursued
And so they danced
Howlin’ at the moon
Surf rider
Barrel racer
Hell or high water
Surf and turf sun-chasers rolling with the tide
Dangerous lovers
Their stars crossed under falling skies
He’s a surf rider
She’s barrel racer
Far fetched, star-crossed
Surf and turf, sun-chasers
What’s the difference between a surfboard and a horse if you
Ride without remorse and you
Stay the course
And so they danced
Til’ the break of high noon
Hell or high water
Surf and turf sun-chasers running out of time
Dangerous lovers
Their stars crossed under falling skies

Another winter to remember
Another winter to forget
We were coming out of hiding
We were ready to reset
I wanna be your April fool
You’re meltingly beautiful
An equinox like no other
And I was tryna catch your eye
Under the waxing moonrise
Stars were twinkling in the sky
I wanna be your April fool
You’re meltingly beautiful
Fish outta water from the Indigo Coast
You chopped the wood; I built the fire
Bundled up in plaid and herringbone
As the snow fell like magic at midnight
I wanna be your April fool
You’re meltingly beautiful
Midnight flurries hit the fire
Sparkles in our eyes
Wrapped in the moonlight
I never wanna see the sunrise
Come on closer; I won’t mind
Can I kiss that smile
As the snow falls
This fire’s gonna burn all night
Another winter to remember
Another winter to forget
An equinox like no other
A springtime never to regret
I wanna be your April fool
You’re meltingly beautiful
J’ai envie d'être ton poisson d’Avril
Que tu es belle; que tu me fais fondre
Et même si ce n’est pas éternel
Je sais qu’on n’oubliera pas de vivre
